It's 2014 and the Elk River chemical spills have devastated a small West Virginia community. Hattie has just finished her junior year of high school when she starts a fire that almost burns down her school. This act of teenage defiance turns into a full blown family crisis as the repercussions drain her household of what little money they have and fracture her relationships with the people closest to her.
